This is "the largest investment of the century" in this area, as stressed by the Minister, who on Friday visited the Payuelos Irrigation Community, in the province of León, where he was accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Jesús Julio Carnero, and the Government Delegate in Castilla y León, Javier Izquierdo.
Planas expressed his satisfaction at visiting Payuelos, where "the most important irrigation works" are being carried out by the Spanish Government, as demonstrated "by their significance and budgetary impact".
In this sense, he highlighted the completion of the works this year of sectors 19 and 21 and that "they will be able to operate at full capacity during 2021, after an investment of 28 million euros and which will benefit 800 farmers, 4,600 hectares in nine municipalities of León and Valladolid".
Planas explained that these works are part of the 14 sectors of 'Centro-Cea' that are being modernized "with an investment of 230 million euros and which is complemented by the actions of the Junta de Castilla y León".
Also, he has detailed that sectors 16 and 18 "are being executed since 2019 with an investment of more than 27 million euros" and has advanced the order to the company Tragsa the realization "of sectors 15 and 20 with more than 29 million euros of investment".
The minister has placed this project as "a good example of the advanced technology of the new irrigation systems, efficient and with all the new technological means" and has bet for this investment that generates "six times more in wealth of what is produced and three times more in employment".
He also defended the Spanish Government's commitment in 2021 to the modernization of irrigation in Castilla y León "in La Armuña, with more than 100 million euros of investment; in the Páramo Bajo, in the Canal del Páramo or in Pollos, among others".
In this line, he has advocated "for the collaboration of all administrations" and has exemplified the work being done with the National Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Topic that, he acknowledged, is his "favorite" and stressed that Spain will receive in the next seven years "47,724 million euros to continue financing the charges of the rural development fund for this type of actions".
Finally, he acknowledged that "if we join forces, the main beneficiaries will be farmers, ranchers, fishermen and the entire rural environment" and in this context "Spain is unstoppable and unbeatable".
